Say it 10 times fast: it's a Firth Filmfest!

A few friends and I tried to see "The King's Speech" the other day -- 2 days after the Oscars -- and found the cinema lobby packed with old Japanese ladies and the 10:50 am (ayem!) showing sold out. This is unprecedented for a midweek, daytime trip to the movies, something of a guilty pleasure for ye old mums with no jobs and school-age children. (In my defense, I never would've seen Avatar on the big screen had I not gone at 11 am on a random Thursday. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.)

Firth must be big in Japan -- this theater we tried to go to, 'Le Cinema', on the 6th floor of Bunkamura (next to, not inside, the department store) in Shibuya, is also showing the 2003 flick "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (Firth plays Vermeer) for the next three weeks.

Didn't that movie suck?
